LLOYD'S MARKET

Our Story

Three generations of the Purcell family serving Lewes with pride since 1971.

Lloyd's Market - serving Lewes since 1971

A Lewes Tradition

On November 19, 1971, Lloyd and Dottie Purcell opened the doors to Lloyd's Market on Savannah Road. What began as a small neighborhood grocery store has grown into a beloved community institution that has served Lewes for over five decades.

The building itself has an even longer history as a food store, serving the Lewes community for approximately 80 years. Before becoming Lloyd's Market, it operated as an IGA, making this location a true cornerstone of local food retail in Delaware's first town.

Today, Lloyd's Market holds the distinction of being Delaware's oldest grocery store - a testament to the Purcell family's dedication to quality, service, and community.

The Purcell Family

Three generations committed to serving our community.

Lloyd's Market has always been a family affair. Founded by Lloyd and Dottie Purcell, the store has been passed down through generations, each bringing their own energy and ideas while maintaining the core values that made the market special.

Today, the market is led by Amy Purcell Pollitt, who serves as General Manager. Working alongside her are family members Darren Purcell and Lenny Pollitt, ensuring that the family tradition continues strong.

This multi-generational commitment means that when you shop at Lloyd's Market, you're not just a customer - you're part of an extended family. Our staff has watched children grow up, celebrated milestones with regulars, and built the kind of relationships that simply don't exist at big-box retailers.
